Contacting Rap Sheet

Before you contact us, make sure that you read our list of Frequently Asked Questions below. We will not respond to any questions that are addressed below.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long does it take to reply to questions submitted through this form?

Rap Sheet will try to quickly respond to every question that comes our way. Understand that as the site becomes more popular, and we start to recieve more questions, it will not always be possible to reply to every question that is submitted.

2. How can I become a writer for the Rap Sheet website?

a. In order to keep cost down and not go the way of other dot coms, we do not pay for articles for the website.
b. In the event that we use your article in the print magazine, you will be paid for that. You will invoice the Rap Sheet (more on that when we cross that bridge).
c. Send 2 samples of your writing, your phone number, and address to darryl@rapsheet.com and webmaster@rapsheet.com. If you are chosen to write for the site you will be notified by email and set up with a rapsheet email account, if you request it. We will print your address on the site so that labels may send you product. *Note that we have the power and the right to check any rapsheet email account to make sure that it is not being used for inappropriate purposes.
d. I will email you info regarding interviews, which artist and what time, and the person that responds to the email first will be the one who will conduct the interview so check your email address frequently. Labels also provide us with "virtual press kits" which basically includes photos of the artists and links to bio and album tracks.
e. The site is updated every 1-2 weeks and we add 2 feature articles during that period so your article might not appear right away.
f. Please use spelling and grammer checks when submitting your article. It would be easier for me if you saved your document as a ".txt" file but I will accept ".doc" files as well.
g. All articles and reviews(once you are on our staff) are to be sent to updates@rapsheet.com.

3. I'm an upcoming artist/label, how can I get/my artist featured on your "Next Up" column?

You must "email" a copy of your bio and a scan of your group's photo or logo to nextup@rapsheet.com. Be aware that the scan must be clean and at least 150x150 pixels. You should also reduce file size of the scan to 72dpi so that it does not clog our mail system. Large files will be deleted without even looking at them. We feature a new "Next Up" artist every 5 days. Rap Sheet reserves the right to refuse any submission.

5. How do I go about advertising in your magazine or on your website?

If you're "serious" about advertising, notice the emphasis on "serious", There are a few levels of advertising that I will describe here.

::Web Advertising::

Newsletter: The Rap Sheet newsletter is sent out weekly to over 10,000 registered subscribers. If you'd like to advertise in our newsletter it will cost you $100 per insertion. We could also send out special promotion emailings featuring only your ad. For this service we charge $200 per mailing.

Banner Ads: For those wanting to advertise on the site, for a limited time ( we will re-evaluate this program in the June), we will set a low monthly rate of $200 instead of the standard per 1000 cpms.

Sneak Peek: A Rap Sheet "Sneak Peak" is a sort of online listening party which is the best type of promotion for an album. We will provide you with a whole page on Rap Sheet.com in which visitors can listen to soundclips of the album (up to 12 clips), read a description of the album, view the album cover, submit comments via a feedback form that is forwarded to your email address, and a link for them to purchase it from online retailers or directly from you. This gives potential fans a chance to preview an album and submit feedback to you as well as allowing them to make a purchase. Pricing for a Rap Sheet "Sneak Peek" is $100 for 2 weeks. Note: We are currently reworking this section of the site.

Special Promotions: We also offer special promotions in the form of pop-up windows and mini-sites. If you're interested in this kind of promotion send us your name and phone number, and someone from the Rap Sheet will contact you.
